spring rolls, sometimes they have fish or meat in them, I got caught out by this once at a restaurant. Or soups too, often people think a vegetable soup has been made with veggie stock, but sometimes it is made with chicken stock, so if you are eating out then ask the waiter if the soup is made with veggie or chicken stock.

What do you think? Answer below!

  1. Soup or anything else that uses stock.
Chewy sweets, marshmallows, jelly...many contain gelatine.
Cheese...maybe contain rennet from the stomach of a calf.
    Salad dressings...some contain bacon fat!
    Worcestershire sauce...most contain fish.
    Tortillas...some contain animal fat.
Beer and wine...many use isingglass which comes from fish. Most draught beers are not vegetarian, whereas bottles are more likely to be so. Most spirits are fine though!

  2. A lot of pre-made foods are seemingly vegetarian but ends up having trace ingredients derived from animals. If you eat a lot of pre-made foods, it's a lot of work initially trying to figure out what's 100 percent meatless.

If an ingredient lists natural flavors, it could very well be some animal product. For instance, McDonald's does this with its french fries.

    1. Bread (http://metro.co.uk/2009/04/27/most-bread-not-fit-for-vegetarians-58355/ )
    2. Canned and restaurant soup WILL contain animal stock or extracts unless it's the specific vegetarian variety. Look at the ingredients very carefully.
    3. Fancy cheese or salad dressing usually has animal products. If it's a cheaper variety, it might not.
    4. Any packaged snacks. Chips and cakes could have rennet, glycerine, etc. in it.
    5. Worcestershire sauce and kimchi (anchovies)
    6. Candy. It may contain gelatin if chewy.
    7. Fancier types of beer. (http://www.nomeatathlete.com/vegan-beer/)
    8. Chinese take-out contains animal stock usually.
    9. Low-fat yogurt sometimes contains gelatin.
    10. Tortillas are sometimes fried in animal fat.
