Is it OK to take collagen supplements while breastfeeding?

Question by Miss Fitness: Is it OK to take collagen supplements while breastfeeding?
I wanted to start taking collagen for my hair and to hopefully maintain the growth that took place while I was pregnant. In my first pregnancy my hair had shed REALLY BAD. Anyways, my Gyno does not seem to know much about it, but then again she advises for me not to take anything while breastfeeding (she's older and more old fashioned). Has anyone breastfeeding ever took a collagen supplement before, or does anyone have a gyno that has told them it is ok to take? Please let me know :)

Thank you

I wouldn't have thought so. Everything you take or eat goes through to the milk. If you visit a health shop they have a book they look in and they can tell you. I wouldn't chance it I don't think.

Here's the sad truth about cellulite. Cellulite is not fat, it's a genetic-based condition involving an uneven distribution of adipose and collagen tissues and once you have it, you will probably have it for life. However, because cellulite involves fat, you may be able to reduce the prominence of it by burning fat. Unfortunately, cellulite seems to present in those areas where fat tends to leave last...buttocks and thighs. So, reducing the cellulite effect will, for most people, require burning excess fat to a very low body fat percent....something which usually means a serious lifestyle change and commitment to proper eating habits for life with no guarantees.

Exercise won't help beyond burning a few more calories so plan your workouts around fitness goals such as excellence in a sport or occupation, strength, endurance, flexibility, systemic fitness, general health and well being, body sculpting, body composition, etc. Don't exercise with the hope it will help make cellulite disappear because it won't.

Here's an excerpt from an article from the US National Institute of Health, the people your doctor listens to.

"A great deal of money is spent by people who want to rid themselves of cellulite, but no amount of weight loss, exercise, massages, wraps, creams, supplements, or surgery has proven to effectively eliminate it once you have it. Liposuction, for instance, is not recommended for cellulite, and may even make it look worse."

How long would it take to tone my legs & butt up?

Question by Sam Bam: How long would it take to tone my legs & butt up?
I'm dieting. Walking every other day & trying to get rid of celulite & tighten and tone my butt and thighs. Should I just wait to burn all my fat off & then tone up or just do it all now??

Best answer:

Answer by ClickMaster
Your body will burn more caloires just keeping your core at 98.6degF than you'll burn in a day of walking. And, neither diet nor exercise will make your cellulite disappear. And, the word "tone" has no meaning so you should use words we can understand if you want good answers.

Any exercise will burn calories but no exercise will burn fat unless your diet allows it. You can burn fat in your sleep or you can run all day and never burn any fat. It all depends on your diet.

Fat loss is determined by calorie control, not by exercise. Good exercises for burning calories are speed walking, biking, swimming, and ANY other physical activity which makes you move a lot of weight for a long time. But NO exercise is good for burning fat if you eat too many calories because you can always eat more calories than you can burn.

Too many people waste energy and time because they do not understand this one simple point. The result is too often giving up in frustration, abandoning gym memberships they continue to pay for, and many other unnecessary problems not the least of which is a lack of success.

An average person must walk about five miles every day of the week to burn the calories equivalent to a pound of body fat. So, unless you think walking five miles a day or doing that amount of exercise is for you, focus your fat loss program on diet.

Diet for fat loss. Exercise for fitness.

Is it a bad idea to take collagen supplements if your 16?

Question by gjgfojgog: Is it a bad idea to take collagen supplements if your 16?
This is what the vitamins say:

The main reason for the formation of fine lines, wrinkles and the appearance of ageing is the depletion of collagen in the skin. Collagen is the most abundant structural protein in the body and as we age we start to lose our natural supply.

Super Collagen™ with added Vitamin C is from 100% pure pharmaceutical collagen which works skin deep and may combat this loss to plump up the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Collagen has been scientifically proven to improve nail and hair health and users report their nails become less brittle and their hair glossier and thicker.

This exclusive system contains a food grade collagen supplement formula. When used as directed, it may help in the reduction of frown lines, crows feet and nasal labial lines as it can help stimulate natural collagen production.

Other benefits include the promotion of elasticity in connective tissue, blood vessels to improve circulation and a glowing complexion. It has the ability to cleanse/detoxify the body, which in turn starts the whole process of progressive regeneration.

What kind of multi-vitamin should a person with rhuemetoid arthritis take?

Question by Sasha: What kind of multi-vitamin should a person with rhuemetoid arthritis take?
like what brand and should some extra vitamin D be taken with it? how much Vitamin D should a person age 30 with artritis take daily?

Best answer:

Answer by ExeneC
I really think you should consult with your doctor before you start any vitamin regimen. he or she should be able to help you about what truly is best for you and how much to take. Here's some info on what kinds of vitamins & supplements can be helpful with RA.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids help cells form leukotrienes. Leukotrienes reduce inflammation in the joints and actually reduces the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps the body to produce collagen, which is a building block of joint health. Collagen also helps to reduce free radicals in the body that can damage joints and lead to arthritis.
Vitamin D and Calcium
Vitamin D and calcium promote bone health, which is a major consideration for arthritis sufferers. Vitamin D helps protect joins from osteoarthritis and also participates in collagen production along with Vitamin C.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is an antioxidant that reduces free radicals in the body. Vitamin E helps joints already damaged by arthritis by reducing the effects.
B Complex Vitamins
B complex vitamins help reduce the inflammation in the joints associated with rheumatoid arthritis. B complex vitamins also help the body with processing protein and building cartilage.

What can a male take with biotin to help prevent pimples?

Question by Ernst: What can a male take with biotin to help prevent pimples?

Best answer:

Answer by Sur La Mer
NEVER take supplements without your doctor's OK.

Any kind of facial wash, you're leaving something toxic behind, it's not a matter of convenience, it's a billion dollar business that can do more harm than good to your acne. And sometimes we feel entirely virtuous about our skin-care regimen because it's full of SPF-- all year round!-- and cleansers and such. But the truth is, we may not realize that we're overdoing (or underdoing) something that can lead to the very thing we're trying to avoid: dryness, breakouts, accelerated aging, New York dermatologist Dr. Jeannette Graf. (I've been giving this same advice for decades, but she's proof enough!).
Take a shower everyday, use washcloth to exfoliate and bath & body wash. Hydrogen peroxide does wonders for acne. Visit their website for more tips & other uses. ONLY $ 1.

Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you're actually spreading it around.
The less products you use, the better for your skin. Use a bath & body wash like Suave, Irish Spring, Dove Body & Face wash in the shower, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday.

The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free. I also don't use liquid on my face for anything, and very little moisturizer, not even a dime size. Since my face is not dry. Good skin also comes from your good genes. Increase your fresh fruits & vegetables 3-5 servings per day. And programmed your mind to do this day after day, for the rest of your life.

The beauty industry is a trillion dollar business, they know acne is everyone's problem, but instead of saying soap is drying for you, they have to invent an acne product that can worsen the skin as MANY TEENAGERS have experienced during hormonal change, but as you get older those are completely a waste of time & money!

Sometimes just the oil on your face from make up and lotions, even from your hair can travel to your face causing acne to come out. Others, from stress, hormones & diet or foods.

Google: FIVE FOODS TO EAT FOR BEAUTIFUL SKIN
All the vitamins & minerals you need for good skin care comes from all the healthy foods you eat from Mother Nature.

If acne's a problem, your pillowcases may be part of the cause. "They collect skin oil, dead skin cells, bacteria, and excess night creams," says David Bank, a professional Dermatology @ Columbia University/New York-Presbyterian Hospital. "But if nothing changed by 6 week the product will never work for you. Time to move on."

"If you have breakouts, dairy is the devil' it is inflammatory and will add hormones to your already hormone-rife system. Get calcium elsewhere, or try nonfat organic dairy products. For PMS breakouts, avoid dairy and bakery items the week before your period - sugar and flour are both causes for pimples and collagen." Dr. Jessica Wu, M.D. University of Southern California School of Medicine and author of the new book Feed Your Face.

SOMEONE WROTE TO ME the other day, ASKING IF THIS BRAND IS BETTER THAN THAT BRAND - FOUND @ DRUGSTORES THEN WROTE ME BACK & THANK ME, SHE LOOKED @ HER MOM'S SKIN AND THEY WERE GOOD, BUT SHE USES ONLY WATER TO WASH HER FACE. There you go, an update.

Lea Michele recently revealed her secret to clear skin—She gives it room to "breathe." "Maybe I'll put on a little mascara. But other than that I try very hard to just let my skin breathe," she told people.com. "I care more about letting my skin breathe than how I look."
Another good example is Lily Collins, actor, writer, artist: "When I travel to Europe, I go days without putting anything on. It feels healthier. I just never understood the idea of caking it on. The more you have on your face, the more there is to smudge and go wrong." Glamour - Sept. 2012.

Do you have a really bad condition? I hope not and if you do then I'm sorry. You can benefit from well balanced meals. Reading about vitamins, supplements and other stuff can make you paranoid. Ask your doctor to test your blood for deficiencies.

Question by It's just D.: Is there a cream or a facewash I can use to take preventive measures against crows feet and aging skin?
I'm 28 and I am not showing any signs of wrinkles or crows feet, but I think I should start to use creams or facewash to prevent (at least for now) lines, crows feet etc. Right now, my routine is very basic. I wash my face with clean and clear deep action cream cleanser, but I don't use any face cream. I don't really wear make-up either. Any suggestions?

Some of the ways that will help your skin stay supple and look younger as you get older would be to stay out of the sun without protection and no tanning beds. Drink plenty of water. Watch your diet. Eat well balanced foods. You make want to apply moisturizer.Personal daily Hygiene is a must You should also develop an exercise program. These things may sound as you'd be working at it all the time but it really does not take that much time and reaping the benefits are great. Keep your mind busy also. Good Luck!.

What medicine can I take to stimulate collagen production?

Question by scarred_for_life: What medicine can I take to stimulate collagen production?
What medicine (or pharmaceutical products such as dietary supplements) can I take to stimulate collagen production in depressed scars?

Best answer:

Answer by gandalf
There isn't one known, at this time.

Getting an adequate supply of protein in your diet (good quality protein) will provide the necessary building blocks.

It's not going to do diddly for the depressed scars. Those are the product of a normal reparative process that didn't quite get the tissue back to normal. You might consider seeing if a plastic surgeon will inject a little collagen in the area, if it's cosmetically embarassing, but I'm toting a pretty significant number of scars, most of 'em covered by hair or clothing, and the visible ones, no one seems to notice.

I want to take it because Im noticing fine lines around my eyes, and my hair is dry, brittle and thinning a little bit. Ive read great reviews on it helping with energy, weight loss, muscle gain, antiaging, hairgrowth, joint pain.. etc.. (not that Im trying to lose weight at the moment) Does anyone know if it is OK to take while pregnant?

on collagen and hyaleronic acid supplements it says to wait 20 minutes before eating and then on other vitamins it says to take with food , for example biotin

Answer by knicname
It has to do with how the specific supplement is metabolized & digested.
Some need the stomach acid of an empty stomach & some need food to mix with to be digested.
