What helps regenerate skin best?

Question by Kashkikov: What helps regenerate skin best?
I've got a couple of scars on my skin. I've heard that stuff like Emu oil, Aloe, and Tamanu Oil help, but I want other opinions. What works best?

Best answer:
Answer by oldtimekid2
There are a couple options... addressing it on the outside and addressing it from the inside. Both are very good and beneficial ways of doing it and you can even do them both at the same time.
You also heard right about the Emu Oil and Aloe, but there are many other options.

For external applications, one thing you can do is to take a 400 IU softgel of Vitamin E, then CAREFULLY poke a hole in it. Squeeze out the oil and spread it out evenly onto the affected area. If you have more than one area that's been affected, spread out the amount that's used evenly to each area, as too much vitamin E can build up to toxic levels in your body.
You can also try soaking your skin in Aloe Vera because that helps to soothe any tissue it touches.

Also, if you would like more benefits, there are some supplements you could take internally to help the health of your skin. Some of the most popular ones are Biotin, Silica (commonly from Horsetail), Emu Oil, Squalene, Borage Oil (specifically for the GLA, Gamma Linoleic Acid), Hyaluronic Acid, MSM, L-Cysteine, Collagen, and most antioxidants (like Vitamins A and C among others).
Good luck!

How to have great, acne free skin?

Question by Joshua: How to have great, acne free skin?
I get pimples a lot and I do everything I can to prevent them with no prevail. My face gets so dry that it hurts after washing my face and then it gets oily throughout the day. I want to find a routine that I can do daily to have great looking skin.

Best answer:

Answer by meowama93
there are several things you can do:
one, you can root around for an acne wash brand. I personally use proactiv, and it's pretty decent. there's also neutrogena, clearasil, skinID, and a lot of others. if you go that route, you have to keep trying out different brands until you find what works for you.

two, you can go to the dermatologist. the dermatologist will give you special creams or antibiotics, but they'll also have to try different things to see what works for you. that might be a more direct approach, though.

i guess, on top of that, make sure you keep your hands clean. try not to touch your face too much. i also heard if you put a clean towel over your pillow each night, it helps prevent breakouts. On that note, make sure your sheets stay clean and wash your hair regularly.

I am an analyst chemist, my skin around my eyes is easy to get redness. How to get rid of it?

Question by Ewen B: I am an analyst chemist, my skin around my eyes is easy to get redness. How to get rid of it?
I am allergy to the smell of chemicals.

Best answer:

Answer by lychi
You might have allergic reaction to some of the chemicals at your workplace.

People who take over the counter or doctor prescribed medicine for their allergy relief are probably familiar with their side effects (i.e. fatigue, drowsiness, headache, etc. ) These medicines contain antihistamines property that inhibits inflammations and allergic reactions and suppress their symptoms.

A powerful antioxidant OPC-3 offers a natural and safe alternative and regular users often report feeling delightfully energetic at the same time. This is because of the high content of free radical scavenging OPCs found in OPC-3.
http://www.marketamerica.com/lcbeauty/product-2217/isotonix-opc3.htm

OPC-3 inhibits the release of histamine. Histamine is a key factor in the promotion of inflammation and allergies, and is associated with eruptive diseases of the skin, irritations of the nose and air passages, rheumatism and stomach ulcers. A common pharmaceutical approach to the control of inflammatory diseases involves the administration of antihistamines. But these drugs produce undesirable side effects. OPC-3, a natural antihistamine, acts as an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy agent, without side effects.

OPC-3 contains the most powerful bioflavonoids(OPC) currently known to research scientists today. They are Pycnogenol (pine bark extract), grape seed extract, red wine extract bilberry extract & citrus extract.

OPC-3 has been shown to provide a variety of health benefits including but not limited to combating free radicals, demonstrating anti-inflammatory activity, improving skin's elasticity, supporting skin collagen production, helping maintain healthy cholesterol levels, helping maintain joint flexibility, helping promote/support cardiovascular health, helping reduce mild menstrual cramping and abdominal pain, helping support visual health/visual acuity, etc.

The reason I recommend OPC-3 is because it's part of the Isotonix family, which is the only oral supplement in the market with isotonic capability when mixing with certain amount of water. Any food or pills taken orally must be digested within our stomach and transported in an isotonic state before our body can absorb its nutrients. This process can take from 40 minutes to 4 hours.

This means that when we drink a supplement that’s isotonic, our stomach does not need to digest it, so that it can enter our small intestines for absorption within minutes. With Isotonix products, little nutritive value is lost, making the absorption of nutrients highly efficient while delivering maximum results.

Best answer:

Answer by Angie
Check this out. I have been taking Clarity for about a month an a half. Great results, I highly recommend it!

Benefits of Vitamin B7 (Biotin)

Biotin is necessary for cell growth, the production of fatty acids, and the metabolism of fats and amino acids. It plays a role in the citric acid cycle, which is the process by which biochemical energy is generated during aerobic respiration. Biotin not only assists in various metabolic reactions, but also helps to transfer carbon dioxide. Biotin is also helpful in maintaining a steady blood sugar level. Biotin is often recommended for strengthening hair and nails. Consequently, it is found in many cosmetic and health products for the hair and skin.

I have lost weight and am now experiencing some skin sagging?

Question by tkj3395: I have lost weight and am now experiencing some skin sagging?
I need to know the absolute best skin firming product on the market. Or any other suggestions on how to help my skin firm up. I'm 27.

Best answer:

Answer by Question&Answer Junkie
This is a problem that overweight people face. Lose the weight, the stretched skin stays behind.

This is usually more serious for people who were extremely overweight, and lose weight very quickly.

You can use all the products that promise results, but I believe that if you really worked so hard to take the weight off, go ahead and have the extra skin removed by a surgeon. At this point, you deserve it, and it will look the best.

Is there any vegtable, cosmetic, etc that makes skin stronger?

Question by Marc: Is there any vegtable, cosmetic, etc that makes skin stronger?
I ride bmx and I go to dirt jumps often. I'm 13 and was wonder if there is any vegtable, fruit, lotion, cosmetic, etc that makes skin stronger to resist cuts. I constantly fall, bail, case, etc and of tired getting scratched up. When I get any decent medium sized cuts and my parents see it they tell me not to go sometimes. I get hurt but thats part of riding. Thank you.

Eating a healthy, well-rounded diet helps your skin. Maybe collagen creams that 'firm' your skin may help-but a little weird or out of place for your purposes. Really, keeping your body as healthy as possible is a great way for it. Maybe VD, VB's, and fish oil tablet supplements will help as well.

Good luck.

How can I get rid of loose skin after a lot of weight loss?

Question by Jacob: How can I get rid of loose skin after a lot of weight loss?
Hi I guess I am looking for someone who can kind of educate me and guide me in the right direction on this matter. I am a 24 years old male 6ft3in tall and weigh roughly 215 pounds as of now. Growing up very early about elementary school time I started getting heavy. I wasn't over eating and when I was about 10 years old my pediatrician was concerned with my weight and had me, with the help of parents and family, log every single thing I ate for 2 weeks. After finding my diet to be normal for my age my doctor tested my thyroid cause he thought I could have issues with my metabolism but again everything came back normal. No one could figure out why I was so heavy and I never was able to shed weight. Long story short by the time I was in middle school I was well over 300lbs and by the time I finished high school I weighed around 390lbs. To be honest I hated my life I was always generally unhappy and always felt trapped inside all this excess weight. About a year after getting out of high school I decided I was going to do whatever it was going to take in order to shed some weight off. By the time I was 22, or maybe turning 23, with the combination of, working out (focusing mainly on cardio running my ass off for 2/3rds of every workout), watching what I ate, moving out of my moms house, forcing myself to eat healthier and on a budget I managed to get down to right around where I am now. I am happy with my over all size because I appear to be tall and slender with an average build. I consider myself to be a "skinny fat guy" though, What I mean by that is my mid sections, like torso up into my chest region, just seems to be too squishy. When I take my shirt off To me I look like I eat nothing but donuts all day. Other people around my size take their shirts off and have much firmer bodies. So what do I need to do? I am open to all suggestions but plastic surgery is kind of something I don't want to have to do cause it is expensive and money is an issue. Also, in the past year and a half or so, I haven't worked out hardly at all and haven't been particularly careful on what I have been eating. But all that weight has stayed off and this seems to be a permanent change to my body. I am about to start working out again for the first time in over a year this coming Monday. I need someone with some knowledge to give me some baselines like if I wanted to see some noticeable changes in 6 months what kind of workout would I need to do? It seems that my body never fully tightened up with all that cardio I was doing in the past. I am under the impression that now getting back into this, this coming week I need to start by maybe doing 20 minutes of some high intensity outdoor cardio to kind of warm up and try to loose a few stubborn pounds followed by my main focus of lots of weight lifting and lots of reps with medium weight daily or at least 5 times a week... I don't know??? Maybe taking some Protein and eating more meat and cutting down on my carbs by at least half. I kind of don't know where to start I am just guessing and trying to piece a plan together so I am not completely blind and clueless this coming week. Please someone give me some guidance how much cardio is idea for what I want to do? Do I need to try to loose a little more weight? Should I be using free weights, machines, or cables? Are there any supplements I might be able to Look in to? I have thought about trying to use testosterone boosters or possibly steroids to get some lean muscle to develop and fill in where I just never could get it to appear at all in the past. Help me tighten up this flab preferably without surgery. Please give me some workouts, ideas, diets or experiences of your own or with the testosterone boosters or steroids. Anything helps I just hate feeling like I don't know what I am doing when I am at the gym. I feel great and have lost and kept off 180lbs so I am very proud of that and for the most part I am in the best shape I have ever been in. I just now am ready to go to the next step of this transformation I wouldn't mind it but I am not necessarily looking for washboard abs. I just want to feel like I look good with my shirt off and don't want a bunch of flab hanging around my chest, stomach, and sides. Suggestions...???... Sorry for the length just trying to be detailed and Thanks in advance to whoever takes their time to read this.

Answer by ny
When someone is overweight, the skin stretches to accommodate the
increased volume of weight. After weight loss, the skin sometimes
fails to tighten back, and becomes loose, hangs or sags. It often acts
as a reminder of the weight you once had. There are some ways to fight
it.
1. Skin care.
- Start by exfoliating your skin daily in the
shower. The outer layer of your skin is made up of old, dried, dead
cells. Exfoliating will help the skins circulation and the balance of
skin growth.
- Treat yourself to a hot hour-long bath once or twice a
week. While the bath is being drawn, add 1/2lb of pure sea salt to the
water and allow it to dissolve. Besides relaxing your body and
muscles, it will draw toxins out of your skin and will improve your
overall skin tone.
- Aloe vera extract, soy protein and yeast extract
can improve your skin's elasticity by increasing your body's
production of elastin and collagen. It not only tightens your skin but
your skin's natural defenses as well.
2. Change Body Composition
This means working on the ratio of your body fat to lean body mass.
You should gain muscle to replace some of those lost pounds while
preventing loss of lean body mass when dieting - This will
dramatically improve loose skin from appearing. Also, loose skin is
one thing, but still having body fat is another.
- Lunges are great for sagging skin on the upper thigh. In order to
tighten loose skin by exercise, you need to pinpoint the right
exercises that will target the area you wish to tighten the skin on.
The upper thigh requires lunges, in which you tone the gluteus, upper
thigh and hamstring, pulling the skin tighter to the thigh and
creating a more attractive thigh area.
- Squats also assist with your lower body sagging skin. Squats are a
dream to tighten loose skin by exercise. They provide an ultimate
lower body workout for the gluteus and thighs. With your feet shoulder
length apart, you simply keep your back straight as you lower yourself
into a sitting position as if you were sitting in a chair.
- Bicep curls target that nasty underarm hang. The arm skin that
hangs down has been called many things by its biggest haters. This
problem seems to be one of the ladies’ biggest woes and can be
targeted with bicep curls. It is important that when you tighten loose
skin by exercise you perform exercises that are toning the muscle, and
therefore the surrounding skin.
- Planks work that stomach flab. With your hands under your
shoulders, hold your arms out with your legs straight and toes holding
your legs up. You get the most abdominal toning with this exercise the
longer you hold the stance. The recommended time is 20 to 30 minutes.
- Crunches are painful but highly effective. When you are seeking the
ultimate way to tighten loose skin by exercise and targeting the
stomach skin flap, crunches can be the most effective. Crunches
provide complete toning for the abs if performed appropriately. The
back should be straight with the chin level, and you will raise your
torso to your knees, fighting the resistance. This will be one
exercise you will feel later.
3. Surgical Reduction
If neither fixing your lifestyle, changing your diet, or using the
above products didn't give you results. There is surgery, it is
expensive, but well worth the money if you get it done right and by a
good surgeon (research your doctors).

Nutrients That Save Face
The key nutrients for skin health include antioxidant vitamins C and E, selenium, vitamin A, vitamin D, zinc, protein, healthy fats, and water.

* Vitamin C, vitamin E, and selenium may reduce the risk of photoaging and skin cancer.
* Vitamin A (carotenoids) helps protect skin against sun damage.
* Vitamin D helps boost immunity and aids in healing.
* Zinc helps with rapid cell growth, such as during wound repair.
* Protein provides your body with the basic building blocks for collagen, the main structural component of skin.
* Healthy fats (essential fatty acids) help maintain healthy skin cell membranes and reduce inflammation.
* Water helps keep your skin hydrated and plump.
Best Practices
# Wear protective clothing and hats as an additional measure of protection.
# Avoid the sun during peak hours (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
-Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes BEFORE you go out into the sun
If you go into the sun immediately after applying sunscreen, stay in the shade for the first 30 minutes.
_Reapply your sunscreen about every 2 hours.
_Use an SPF-containing lip balm whenever you are out in the sun.
Tips for Preventing Breakouts

* Choose "noncomedogenic" hair, skin, and makeup products.
* Avoid touching your face with your hands. Hands can spread bacteria to facial pores.
* Rinse off soon after working out to help prevent sweat and skin oils from mixing and clogging pores.
* Avoid overwashing or using harsh scrubs. These can cause excess oil production.
* Keep stress under control. Stress doesn't cause acne, but it may lead to overproduction of skin oils.

Question by resonance321: What is the Collagen supplement for? Would it help prevent skin aging?
Would taking Collagen orally help prevent aging of the skin? I saw it in the store the other day in the Vitamin section...if that's not what it's for then what is it?

Best answer:

Answer by Adam
It's probably designed to boost collagen production.

You would get the same effect from eating fruits and veggies high in vitamin C which help boost collagen naturally.

Collagen is one of the building blocks of your skin. Without it your skin sags and other unwanted effects.
