Progesterone, whether natural or not is still an estrogen, (estrogens are female sex hormones). So, if you have a family history of cancers related to estrogens (eg breast or ovaries cancer) then i strongly advice you against taking them... on the other hand, there are other types of medication much more efficient in treating arthritis, depending of course on the type of arthritis... of course, eating foods rich in phytoestrogens (estrogens produced by plants, like soy) may help you, but do it in moderation!

Go see a Naturopath and get bio-identical hormones. They are far superior to the hormone products that conventional MD's have access to.
ReplyDeleteArthritis and hot flashes are not related problems by the way. Sage supplements will get rid of the hot flashes and there are plenty of natural products for arthritis ranging from glucosamine, chondroitin. MSM, type 2 collagen, devil's claw, turmeric, vitamin C/lysine/proline... lots.
Raw Food Diet might help cure arthritis (seriously, google it!!... you might as well youtube or google it, b/c youtubeing/googleing never hurts. all you get is more info :)
ReplyDeleteI think nature slows down our hormone production for good reason. There is no reason to be prescribing it for arthritis, and prescribing it for hot flashes tends to make the process last longer - not to mention, it does increase risk of reproductive cancers and heart disease. There is wisdom in the body - this is an excellent example.
ReplyDeleteAsk your doctor what they think of gentle excercise for lower back arthritis - t'ai chi, yoga, that sort of thing. It's right on the front page of the arthritis foundations website - I'm all for it, and most doctors are too - it seems very counterintuitive, and yet, often that's the very thing we need to keep us from getting 'stuck'. See what they think....just my two sense.

Sorry I say this, but Progesterone is NOT an Estrogen! They are two completely different things! This is why babies in utero are bathed in Progesterone yet boys come out as boys and girls, as girls. Progesterone, (Pro-gestation) is the generation and regeneration hormone. You need to find a good M.D. who knows the studies (as well as he History) of this hormone and the various methods available to increase your levels. You are 100% correct NOT to take any Estrogen (it's a class folks, just like "apple" is not a fruit but a class of very many types like McIntosh, Delicious, Gala, etc.) if you have family history of cancer. Estrogen speeds cellular growth.
