My hair has been falling out since Feb?

Question by vanillacherry101: My hair has been falling out since Feb?
I dye my hair fairly frequently, to the point people have told me to stop dyeing it but I didn't listen since no damage had been done. Well, I moved to a hard water area and dyed my hair two months ago. But its been falling out and thinning out ever since =[ I have naturally thick hair. What's happening? I've been taking Biotin like crazy recently. Please help.

What are good home remedies for breakouts?

Question by ni-coleslaw: What are good home remedies for breakouts?
I started taking biotin and it's making my skin look horrible. I luckily skipped the acne phase when I was a teenager and never got any, but now I feel like I have it at 23 :( I recently tried using lemon juice all over my face for a week now and it hasn't done anything but make it look worse. What is something good that I can try that is a home remedy possibly? Or even an inexpensive cream or anything? Thanks :)

Best answer:

Answer by Dana
There are many, The remedies i use are as follows
Fresh Garlic ( put on acne and keep on for 10 min then wash off)
Egg white ( put all over face, keep on untill dry then wash off)
Asprin ( crush asprin and mix with 2 drops of water to make a paste, put on acne and wait for 20 min then wash it off, this one is MOST EFFECTIVE)
Hope these work for you, they worked for me.

My doctor would NOT perscribe natural PROGESTERONE for my arthritis in my?

Question by sweet: My doctor would NOT perscribe natural PROGESTERONE for my arthritis in my?
lower back plus hot flashes. But i even showed her what the internet said about how good it is and she said she has information that the last study it is NOT good. ( I cannot take Estrogen due to the cancer in my family). What have you heard that was negative about natural progesterone??? thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Serotonin Addicted
Progesterone, whether natural or not is still an estrogen, (estrogens are female sex hormones). So, if you have a family history of cancers related to estrogens (eg breast or ovaries cancer) then i strongly advice you against taking them... on the other hand, there are other types of medication much more efficient in treating arthritis, depending of course on the type of arthritis... of course, eating foods rich in phytoestrogens (estrogens produced by plants, like soy) may help you, but do it in moderation!

How do you get rid of dark circles under eyes?

Question by J: How do you get rid of dark circles under eyes?
I'm only 16 years old and I have to wear loads of foundation and concealor under my eyes. However much makeup I use, it looks cakey and they still look slightly dark. I get enough sleep, is there any other suggestions other than sleeping more that will get rid of them? My skin is really pale, which probably makes them even darker. None of my friends have this problem. I can't even stay out long as I know that the makeup will have all came off within a few hours so I have to go home and re-apply it..

Best answer:

Answer by Samslou
Okay, you need to be patient with this but it works like nothing else in the long term. You need a cream (or gel is even better, I use one called "Vita-K Solution") with a high concentration of Vitamin K and this should be the very first thing you put under your eye after cleansing. Do this every morning as well as every night before you go to bed. This will correct any abnormalities you have with the capillary structure, which is the most common reason for both dark undereye circles and spider veins later on in life.

As well, the obvious of course. Be sure you're getting LOTS of rest and keep as stress-free as possible.

Glucosamine for a dog without arthritis?

Question by Mich: Glucosamine for a dog without arthritis?
I have a 7-month old akita male, and this breed is very prone to joint problems, especially hip dysplasia. I was wondering is it a good idea to give him glucosamine supplements to keep his joints healthy and potentially prevent any future joint problems?

Best answer:

Answer by Mutt Mommy
It's a great idea. I use it because my dog has a knee condition, but I think it should always be used in large breeds as a preventative.

what are the best vitamins to promote healthy skin?

Question by Lisa: what are the best vitamins to promote healthy skin?
can someone list all the types of vitamins that promote healthy skin?

Best answer:

Answer by oldtimekid2
There are a couple options... addressing it on the outside and addressing it from the inside. Both are very good and beneficial ways of doing it and you can even do them both at the same time.

One thing you can do is to take a 400 IU softgel of Vitamin E, then CAREFULLY poke a hole in it. Squeeze out the oil and spread it out evenly onto the affected area. If you have more than one area that's been affected, spread out the amount that's used evenly to each area, as too much vitamin E can build up to toxic levels in your body.
You can also try soaking your skin in Aloe Vera because that helps to soothe any tissue it touches.

Also, if you would like more benefits, there are some supplements you could take internally to help the health of your skin. Some of the most popular ones are Biotin, Silica (commonly from Horsetail), Squalene, Borage Oil (specifically for the GLA, Gamma Linoleic Acid), Hyaluronic Acid, MSM, L-Cysteine, Collagen, and most antioxidants (like Vitamins A and C among others).
Good luck and I hope I helped!

Nutrients That Save Face
The key nutrients for skin health include antioxidant vitamins C and E, selenium, vitamin A, vitamin D, zinc, protein, healthy fats, and water.

* Vitamin C, vitamin E, and selenium may reduce the risk of photoaging and skin cancer.
* Vitamin A (carotenoids) helps protect skin against sun damage.
* Vitamin D helps boost immunity and aids in healing.
* Zinc helps with rapid cell growth, such as during wound repair.
* Protein provides your body with the basic building blocks for collagen, the main structural component of skin.
* Healthy fats (essential fatty acids) help maintain healthy skin cell membranes and reduce inflammation.
* Water helps keep your skin hydrated and plump.
Best Practices
# Wear protective clothing and hats as an additional measure of protection.
# Avoid the sun during peak hours (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
-Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes BEFORE you go out into the sun
If you go into the sun immediately after applying sunscreen, stay in the shade for the first 30 minutes.
_Reapply your sunscreen about every 2 hours.
_Use an SPF-containing lip balm whenever you are out in the sun.
Tips for Preventing Breakouts

* Choose "noncomedogenic" hair, skin, and makeup products.
* Avoid touching your face with your hands. Hands can spread bacteria to facial pores.
* Rinse off soon after working out to help prevent sweat and skin oils from mixing and clogging pores.
* Avoid overwashing or using harsh scrubs. These can cause excess oil production.
* Keep stress under control. Stress doesn't cause acne, but it may lead to overproduction of skin oils.

will taking supplements decrease my body's natural production?

Question by Me: will taking supplements decrease my body's natural production?
I bleached my hair and it's been falling out or breaking more. My friend's mom offered some collagen pills she bought for hair and nails. I'm 24, is there any risk that taking the pills will decrease my body's natural production? Or will it just add to it? I guess I'm asking does my body make it on an as needed basis, so it might make less if I already have plenty from the pills.

Best answer:

Answer by Feral
All the food we consume now are depleted of its natural resources (vitamins, minerals) due to the farming practices used now. So who knows if we are really getting the nutrients we need even if we do have a healthy diet. Taking vitamin supplements should not disrupt your natural production, as if you have an abundant amount of vitamins in your system, you will usually just pee out the excess. However, taking extra calcium could cause problems IF it's not taken with vitamin K. Vitamin K helps absorb the calcium into the proper places. Melatonin supplement may disrupt your body's natural process, but almost all melatonin supplements state on the bottle to not take for more than a week. I would suggest taking a natural prenatal vitamin, as it has biotin, vitamin B, and other vitamins that help your hair, skin, nails, and overall health.

What is the best vitamin e oil? Does it really work as well as people say it does?

Question by Technicolor Girl: What is the best vitamin e oil? Does it really work as well as people say it does?
I had a lot of questions about reducing/lightening some acne scars and a few stretch marks. All the answers pointed to vitamin e oil or cocoa butter or even both (also strivectin but you have to apply that 3 times a day and it's costly). I was wondering what brands might work best and where to get them? Any tips on how often to apply or other tricks you might have would be great too. Thanks!

Answer by naughty_mattress_monkey
I have used 400 IU's of vitamin E. Break apart the gel caplet and smear it on at bed time. It does take time to work depending upon the elastisty of your skin. If you are older and the elastisity has "gone away" so to speak, there is not anything short of surgery that will work.

Can the foods you eat and the exercise you participate in, reduce your risk for osteoporosis or not?

Question by Rikia: Can the foods you eat and the exercise you participate in, reduce your risk for osteoporosis or not?
If so, what types of lifestyle choices can reduce your risk?

Best answer:

Answer by La Finita
Calcium rich food, 1500 mg per day, food or supplements plus weight bearing exercise helps. Lack of food, in general, hurts. What calcium is in leafy greens and if it is absorbed is still being researched. Until then, food with added calcium and the above recommendation. Walking causes reverberations in the bones. Bones respond with becoming stronger and sending calcium there when signaled. That's why doctors recommend walking daily 30 minutes rather than swimming which is not weight bearing. A friend of age 22 had early onset osteoporosis. I wonder if it was due to low weight, and consequently little food or lack of milk. Osteoporosis is also genetic.

Are Collagen Supplements worth it?

Question by 3riCa: Are Collagen Supplements worth it?
I'm looking at a collagen dietary supplement that's relatively cheap for its serving-price ratio. It has Collagen Types 1 and 3 and it instructs me to take 6.6 (1 scoop) grams of this everyday.

So will this help my skin be softer?

Best answer:

Answer by Sur La Mer
NEVER take supplements without your doctor's OK.

Supplements, medications, anti-acne products, hair oil, birth control pills, pollution in the water, to name just a few . . . ALL HAVE SIDE EFFECTS. Watch the movie called SIDE EFFECTS. Example: "I used minoxidil drug to restore the hair on my head; however, I ended up with unwanted body hair. I don't know if it is temporary or I have to seek medical treatment." YA poster 9-27-12.

Any reactions to a drug - like Vitamin B complex which is a supplement - 'side effect' is a negative reaction to a drug - this is your body telling you that what you just gave it is toxic to it, and instead of helping you, it is actually hurting you.  It is your body's way of telling you to stop.  All drugs have side effects, and are toxic...even lethal...to some people at some dosage.  Another term for toxic is poisonous.  We owe it to ourselves to try less toxic treatments first.  Especially since too many drugs merely cover up symptoms rather than treat the underlying cause of the symptom in the first place.

Another example: Green Tea supplement: Green tea extract supplements have been linked to several cases of liver damage. Green tea extracts might make liver disease worse.

Source: Health Magazine, FDA, Slate dot com
Another example: Vitamin D posted on Facebook: "I'm regretting reading the small print on my bottle of Vitamin D capsules. The source is "wool oil." So... sheep sebum? I can't get the (hopefully imagined) smell of wet sheep out of my mouth now."

You want softer skin? Exfoliate using a wash cloth & bath & body wash each time you take a shower.
Too much soaking in the tub or pool, and the sun are skin's worst enemies. Use a wide brim hat or umbrella when you're outside.
