How do I get rid of stretch marks?

Question by little.miss.shopaholic: How do I get rid of stretch marks?
Due to losing weight, I've got stretch marks on my inner thighs and to make it worse, I've got medium toned skin.
Summer is coming up and I can hardly wear shorts or my bathers!

Help would be appreciated :D

  1. Look for a type of oil called Bio Oil... it takes away stretch marks...

Also try Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks.. works very well too.

  2. Stretch marks are caused by weight gain not weight loss. I dont think there is any real treatment to get rid of them unless its laser surgery. So you may as well learn to love them because they will be with you until you die!

  3. I had talked to my dermatologist about this a while ago. She had told me that there are laser treatments that you can get done that REDUCE the appearance of them. You can never actually get rid of them sadly, just make them less noticeable. The older they get the less purple/red they will be and will eventually become a light mark.

All sorts of companies are making money telling you you need creams for this and that, but if you look into the studies, they actually don't work how you think they work. For instance, Mederma scar treatment. That stuff uses onion extract that you rub into your scars 3-4 times a day. They found out that its the actual rubbing of the scars that helps heal the effected area, due to increasing the blood flow by rubbing the area. Go figure. Thats probably why there is not a prescription version of this stuff. What medical company wouldn't want to be making shit loads of money off of patients who had recently have surgery or any sort of scars..

Palmer's Cocoa Butter is quite ok.
It helps to reduce the stretch marks...but do not make it dissapear completely. I've tried both the lotion and cream, i think the cream is more effective.

Eventually the marks will fade with time. It may take months to years. Do not expect your skin will be back as it used to be. No OTC cream, serum, lotion, etc can give you that.
If you do want it, contact your dermatologist. Most likely she will suggest some operation

Why don't you wear something more "modest" this summer. It will hide your marks in a beautiful way, and reduce the risk of skin cancer.

  5. I tried cocoa butter and it didnt work for me. What worked was a stretch mark cream. I applied it twice daily and within 3 weeks, they were starting to disappear. During this time you can use foundation or self-tanning products to hide them

  7. Avon makes a good cream too that reduces the appearance. I used it on my hips and it changed them from an ugly red color to a color that matched my normal skin tone.
