* Vitamin A, E & C – Supplementing these vitamins may help increase the strength and elasticity of the collagen within your skin and reducing your chance of forming stretch marks.

* Stay hydrated.

# Time – Stretch marks, like all types of scarring fade over time.

# Retin-A (Tretinoin) – 0.1% Tretinoin creams have been shown to significantly reduce the appearance of stretch marks. These creams work best when used on fresh stretch marks. (do not use this is you are currently pregnant though)

# Exfoliate daily – use a loofah or scrunchy to remove daily.

# Increase Circulation – by taking hot baths and massaging the areas regularly.

# Tanning – Go sunbathing! Tanning can diminish and even eliminate minor stretch marks. Be sure to use sun screen.

# Vitamin E Gel – Break open vitamin E capsules and rub the oil into the skin over the stretch marks daily for 2 weeks

Question by Sasha: What kind of multi-vitamin should a person with rhuemetoid arthritis take?
like what brand and should some extra vitamin D be taken with it? how much Vitamin D should a person age 30 with artritis take daily?

Best answer:

Answer by ExeneC
I really think you should consult with your doctor before you start any vitamin regimen. he or she should be able to help you about what truly is best for you and how much to take. Here's some info on what kinds of vitamins & supplements can be helpful with RA.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids help cells form leukotrienes. Leukotrienes reduce inflammation in the joints and actually reduces the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps the body to produce collagen, which is a building block of joint health. Collagen also helps to reduce free radicals in the body that can damage joints and lead to arthritis.
Vitamin D and Calcium
Vitamin D and calcium promote bone health, which is a major consideration for arthritis sufferers. Vitamin D helps protect joins from osteoarthritis and also participates in collagen production along with Vitamin C.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is an antioxidant that reduces free radicals in the body. Vitamin E helps joints already damaged by arthritis by reducing the effects.
B Complex Vitamins
B complex vitamins help reduce the inflammation in the joints associated with rheumatoid arthritis. B complex vitamins also help the body with processing protein and building cartilage.

What can a male take with biotin to help prevent pimples?

Question by Ernst: What can a male take with biotin to help prevent pimples?

Best answer:

Answer by Sur La Mer
NEVER take supplements without your doctor's OK.

Any kind of facial wash, you're leaving something toxic behind, it's not a matter of convenience, it's a billion dollar business that can do more harm than good to your acne. And sometimes we feel entirely virtuous about our skin-care regimen because it's full of SPF-- all year round!-- and cleansers and such. But the truth is, we may not realize that we're overdoing (or underdoing) something that can lead to the very thing we're trying to avoid: dryness, breakouts, accelerated aging, New York dermatologist Dr. Jeannette Graf. (I've been giving this same advice for decades, but she's proof enough!).
Take a shower everyday, use washcloth to exfoliate and bath & body wash. Hydrogen peroxide does wonders for acne. Visit their website for more tips & other uses. ONLY $ 1.

Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you're actually spreading it around.
The less products you use, the better for your skin. Use a bath & body wash like Suave, Irish Spring, Dove Body & Face wash in the shower, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday.

The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free. I also don't use liquid on my face for anything, and very little moisturizer, not even a dime size. Since my face is not dry. Good skin also comes from your good genes. Increase your fresh fruits & vegetables 3-5 servings per day. And programmed your mind to do this day after day, for the rest of your life.

The beauty industry is a trillion dollar business, they know acne is everyone's problem, but instead of saying soap is drying for you, they have to invent an acne product that can worsen the skin as MANY TEENAGERS have experienced during hormonal change, but as you get older those are completely a waste of time & money!

Sometimes just the oil on your face from make up and lotions, even from your hair can travel to your face causing acne to come out. Others, from stress, hormones & diet or foods.

Google: FIVE FOODS TO EAT FOR BEAUTIFUL SKIN
All the vitamins & minerals you need for good skin care comes from all the healthy foods you eat from Mother Nature.

If acne's a problem, your pillowcases may be part of the cause. "They collect skin oil, dead skin cells, bacteria, and excess night creams," says David Bank, a professional Dermatology @ Columbia University/New York-Presbyterian Hospital. "But if nothing changed by 6 week the product will never work for you. Time to move on."

"If you have breakouts, dairy is the devil' it is inflammatory and will add hormones to your already hormone-rife system. Get calcium elsewhere, or try nonfat organic dairy products. For PMS breakouts, avoid dairy and bakery items the week before your period - sugar and flour are both causes for pimples and collagen." Dr. Jessica Wu, M.D. University of Southern California School of Medicine and author of the new book Feed Your Face.

SOMEONE WROTE TO ME the other day, ASKING IF THIS BRAND IS BETTER THAN THAT BRAND - FOUND @ DRUGSTORES THEN WROTE ME BACK & THANK ME, SHE LOOKED @ HER MOM'S SKIN AND THEY WERE GOOD, BUT SHE USES ONLY WATER TO WASH HER FACE. There you go, an update.

Lea Michele recently revealed her secret to clear skin—She gives it room to "breathe." "Maybe I'll put on a little mascara. But other than that I try very hard to just let my skin breathe," she told people.com. "I care more about letting my skin breathe than how I look."
Another good example is Lily Collins, actor, writer, artist: "When I travel to Europe, I go days without putting anything on. It feels healthier. I just never understood the idea of caking it on. The more you have on your face, the more there is to smudge and go wrong." Glamour - Sept. 2012.

Herbal supplements and/or good foods to build collagen?

Question by RandomGonzo: Herbal supplements and/or good foods to build collagen?
My son is being evaluated for Marfan syndrome, due to some physical traits he has (he's very tall & thin, has some chest malformation), and also because it runs in my family.

I've read that certain foods, such as asparagus, can help build collagen (fibrillin), since if you have Marfan's, or something similar, you don't make as much of this. Are there other foods? How about natural/herbal supplements?

Best answer:

Answer by SunnyCA2FL2006
I don't know of any supplement that will help with Marfan's. Accordingly, although there is no cure for Marfan syndrome yet, there are several different treatment options that can minimize and prevent complications.

You've probably read may articles regarding this but talk with your son's specialist to see if he has any recommendations and if he knows of any studies currently being done and what if any are the results so far.

What laundry mat in Weirton WV have tanning beds?

Question by Kristen Scopel: What laundry mat in Weirton WV have tanning beds?
How much is it to use them? Do they work good?

Best answer:

Answer by ☆ΜαΣϰιντολογιςτ☆
“BEAUTY FADES. DUMB IS FORVER” – Judge Judy.

No RATIONAL and RESPONSIBLE Yahoo! Answer member is going to help you SCATHE your skin, RAVAGE the health of your skin, and DIE young in the name of beauty – a foolish one, in fact.

There is NO such thing as a safe tan from the sun or sunbed! The ONLY safe way to tan is with a well-formulated self-tanner for your specific skin type.

FACT – Both indoor tanning and sun tanning cause sun damage!
FACT – Tanning bed damages your skin at a higher intensity of UV radiation than the already dangerous sun exposure.
FACT – Ultraviolet-A ray penetrates the dermis and deteriorates collagen and elastic fibers.
FACT – Ultraviolet-B ray penetrates the epidermis and induces inflammation.
FACT – Both UV-rays cause sun damage and significantly increases your risk of skin cancer.

Counter-arguments you may have against me:
1)Sun light synthesize vitamin D, which helps fight cancer.
Rebuttal: True! However, people can get vitamin D from diet or oral over-the-counter or prescription supplementation. Yes, vitamin D in food or oral supplement is absorbable through the intestines. There is no excuse to get it from UV. The risks outweigh the benefits any day.

2)UV light therapy is used to treat specific skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.
Rebuttal: True! However, phototherapy should ONLY supervised by a health care provider such as a board-certified dermatologist. The National Psoriasis Foundation recommends at-home UVB light bulb to treat psoriasis, not a sunbed. There is a major difference here: the light bulb gives you small controlled amount of UV whereas a tanning bed exposes your whole body, including the unaffected regions, to high levels of UV radiation. Even with at-home treatments, it is imperative to have check-ups with your physician for sun damage and skin cancer. The National When performed in a doctor’s practice, eczema or psoriasis clinic the UV intensity is controlled and minimal. Psoriasis Foundation DISAPPROVES people from using tanning bed to treat psoriasis. The National Eczema Association does not have a position on phototherapy, but proper skin care and some prescription products are considered first. There is no need to consider light therapy unless you have exhausted all of the other conservative and safer modalities.

3)I do not care. I will use it any way.
Rebuttal: This is not a counter-argument, technically. There is an old adage: to each their own.

Bottom Line: The research is CLEAR and the American Academy of Dermatology, Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and World Health Organization all concur: indoor tanning and sunbathing are dangerous – PERIOD.

How do I get rid of a little stretch marks?

Question by Veronica: How do I get rid of a little stretch marks?
I have a few stretch marks on the side of my stomache uh I guess on my love handles how can I get rid of them?! They're already white and I've tried the cocoa butter but it dosent help.. Someone help me

Best answer:

Answer by Cahill
Stretch marksStretch marks are scars left behind when skin is overstretched, and fibers in the middle layer (dermis) have broken. They most often occur during pregnancy, bodybuilding, extreme weight gain, occasionally puberty and are usually found on the abdomen, breasts, buttocks, legs, and upper arms. Fresh stretch marks appear initially as red lines and then slowly fade to a pale white color over the course of several months. While it is possible to reduce and even eliminate the appearance of stretch marks, it is much easier to prevent them.
2. How to Prevent Stretch Marks

Since stretch marks occur when skin is stretched to the limit of its elasticity – it follows that the best prevention is either to reduce the cause of stretching or to increase elasticity (or both).

Increase your Skin’s Elasticity

* Lotion Skin Creams and Lotions – Lotions containing cocoa butter are rumored to not only help reduce stretch marks, but to help prevent them entirely. Any cream or oil that is made specifically for the prevention or treatment of stretch marks will help keep your skin healthy and elastic. If you are pregnant or breast feeding consult your doctor first as lotions can contain ingredients that may be passed to your unborn baby or into breast milk.
* Vitamin A, E & C – Supplementing these vitamins may help increase the strength and elasticity of the collagen within your skin and reducing your chance of forming stretch marks.
* Stay hydrated. Every try to squeeze a dry sponge?

3. Stretch Mark Removal

How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks

If you’re more concerned with getting rid of stretch marks than preventing them, read on. There are many methods to choose from, ranging from home remedies for stretch marks, to medical and cosmetic procedures. You will notice that every single one of these remedies also helps promote the overall health of your skin – the healthier your skin is, the better it can heal itself. Always consult your doctor before undergoing any treatment, especially if you are pregnant or nursing.
Home Remedies to Remove Stretch Marks

* Time – Stretch marks, like all types of scarring fade over time.
* Retin-A (Tretinoin) – 0.1% Tretinoin creams have been shown to significantly reduce the appearance of stretch marks in a study published in the May 1996 Archives of Dermatology. See your doctor for a prescription. These creams work best when used on fresh stretch marks. WARNING: Do not use tretinoin treatments if you are pregnant of breast feeding as the active ingredient may be passed to the unborn child or the breast milk.

Vick's Vapor Rub
* Exfoliate daily – use a loofah or scrunchy to remove daily.
* Vic’s Vapor Rub – Many people have reported success using Vic’s Vapor rub by applying it to a washcloth or paper towel and rubbing it forcefully into the scarred skin on a nightly basis for a few weeks.
* Increase Circulation – by taking hot baths and massaging the areas regularly.
* Tanning – Go sunbathing! Tanning can diminish and even eliminate minor stretch marks. Be sure to use sun screen.

Vitamin E Gel
* Vitamin E Gel – Break open vitamin E capsules and rub the oil into the skin over the stretch marks daily for 2 weeks.
* Unstretch the skin – After the skin returns to its normal, unstretched size, stretch marks often become nearly invisible.
* Stretch Mark Creams and Lotions – Using stretch mark creams and stretch mark lotions that heal and beautify your skin can reduce the appearance of stretch marks. The following ingredients are widely accepted as beneficial for this purpose:
o Cocoa butter
o Rose hip oil
o Emu oil
o Jojoba oil
Cocoa butter Castor Oil Vitamin E Cream
o Castor oil
o Shea butter
o Vitamin A
o Vitamin E
o Vitamin C

Medical Procedures for Stretch Marks

* Surgery Microdermabrasion – Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure popular in spas and salons where the top-most layer of skin is removed by chemical or mechanical means.
* Endermologie – Endermologie machines massage and work the skin in order to increase circulation and expel toxins.
* Laser Therapy – There are several different types of stretch mark laser treatments available that can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks and heal you skin. See your dermatologist for the latest information on these methods.
* Cosmetic Surgery – Stretch marks typically appear below the belly button and the only way to remove abdominal stretch marks is with a tummy tuck. During a tummy tuck some of the skin below the belly button is removed. For stretch marks that appear on other areas of the body cosmetic plastic surgery can help depending on the areas affected. :) :)

Are collagen supplements a viable alternative to injection?

Question by Steven Y: Are collagen supplements a viable alternative to injection?

Best answer:

Answer by oldtimekid2
Yes and no. By taking it supplementally, it does help support the health of the joints, but it won't be as fast of an impact as directly injecting some into your joint. Also, vegetarians really couldn't take a supplemental collagen because it would be from an animal source (although injections could be chemically created so they aren't from animals in theory).
The more positive sides of the supplemental form is that you're taking it as nature intended (eating collagen orally) so your body will process it as it needs and send the nutrients where it's needed just as human bodies have since the dawn of man. Also, it's a lot more cost efficient (and often time efficient) to take a daily pill than go into your doctor's office for an injection every so often. By taking it daily, you'll also keep the joints (all the joints, not just the one you inject it into) healthy and moving more comfortably while the shots are commonly only given when you're in enough pain.

Either way, it will nourish the joints so it's really personal preference and personal need, but those are the main reasons I can think of that people may prefer one over the other. Good luck and I hope I helped!
