Cocoa Butter didn't work at all for me and I put that stuff on religiously 2x a day. I gained a lot of weight while I was pregnant though. Try not to eat everything you see even if your starving. The weight is just about gone finally but my battle scars are still there. Unfortunately.

  1. Keeping the skin as moisturized as possible Will help. You are definitely using the right stuff. Try not to eat salt so that you do not retain water that causes bloating and swelling. Try not to gain more weight than is recommended and if it's OK with your Doctor, exercise.
If you do get some stretch marks (Demi Moore and Heidi Klum certainly aren't sharing their secrets) try Mederma . It is a scar cream or gel available at any drug store.

  2. I used something called "Mother's friend" over 20 yrs. ago and when I didn't have that, baby oil did the trick. I have 2 children with no strech marks. Check the drug stores, don't know if its still available. I think using the cocoa butter lotion you have a better chance of no marks than not using anything at all..

  3. There are many factors involved with stretch marks and the first to remember is you are a human and a soon-to-be-mother and your stretch marks, if you have them, are a rite of passge, or battle scar you should be proud of!! Don't let the media's version of a woman make you feel un-comfortable with your body image!

The reality is you are undergoing incredible physical changes while your baby is growing and you will gain weight and your skin will undergo changes and this is all normal. You will also eventually have grey hairs and wrinkles and diminished eyesight...the important thing is to be proud of your motherhood and to be a strong independant person!

Stretchmarks, to an extent, can be a question of genetics...did your mama have stretchmarks? Well if she did it probly didn;t matter to you...she was your mama! So you might have stretchmarks but it won't matter to your little baby...if it matters to someone else...like your "man" then he has a skewed view of the life process and needs a good smackin'!

There are, of course some things you can do to help reduce the chances and the effects of stretchmarks if you have a family history of them:

Eat healthy. Eat a balanced diet that keeps your weight gain within the recommended range of 25 to 35 pounds. Excellent nutritional status is key for your developing baby and also contributes to the strength and health of the body’s largest organ: the skin. A controlled and steady weight gain, without any major upward swings, will let your skin stretch at a steady rate without any sudden jolts.

Use a body brush or wash cloth to massage the areas where you have stretch marks, or want to prevent stretch marks from appearing - this will increase circulation to the area, which may be helpful. Better yet...ask your partner to do it!!

Drink plenty of water. Hydration is important for your overall health and well-being as well as that of your growing baby, and it is important to healthy skin.

Take your vitamins. This is one more way to ensure proper nutritional status, which is critical for your overall health and well-being, as well as beautiful skin and a healthy baby!

Keep skin liberally and effectively moisturized beginning in the first or second trimester and through your recovery to your pre-pregnancy weight, perhaps with one of the many oils and creams marketed especially for stretch mark prevention. These moisturizers will help keep your skin supple and elastic plus serve as “food” (and vitamin supplements) for your skin. The various vitamins and oils used to create these formulas are designed to help enhance collagen production and support the dermis, to keep skin intact despite the rigorous stretching.

After the birth take care of yourself and allow yourself the time to adjust and be patient and remember that there are things in this world beyond the skin!

For the small price of a few minor imperfections in your skin you will have the unique and overwhelming privilege of serving as a mother to the tiny, helpless little baby you hold so gently in your arms.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and best wishes for a healthy baby!
