Collagen production is reduced as we age. Is this inevitable or is there something you can so to prevent this.

. . .like through health or diet?

I've heard that Coenzyme Q-10 can boost collagen production, but would you have to continue taking it indefinitely?

It would have no effect.
Food supplements are not invented and marketed because they are effective (in which case they would also likely have side effects), but rather because most likely they are not, since they are abundantly present in the body anyway. Be smart, save your many, and don't worry about the collagen, I have not seen anyone die from lack of collagen (nor of coenzyme Q).

  1. Wow........ I am very surprised at the last answer I read..... and have to wonder if he is really a M.D. Almost all medical doctors now recognize that some supplements are not only beneficial but almost necessary considering the several stress factors that our bodies deal with on a daily basis. For example, vitamin C, iron, ginko, vitamin b's, vitamin A, ginseng, and several others are even prescribed. Don't let that "doctor" fool you. Supplements are even given to pregnant women and babies, and are often put into our foods. Ex. vitamin D fortified milk. As far as coenzyme q-10........ I can not answer your question personally. I know several studies have been done and many of them show promising results not only physically but mentally as well. I have just recently started taking it. My experience with any "anti-aging" formula is that you have to find what works for you. All of our bodies are different. There are many things that can help with collagen production as well as prevent it from breaking down. Talk to a natural medicine doctor and an internalist ............ and do alot of research. Read some of Dr. Perricone's books. Ps. I am also in the medical field.
